If you're going to make an 'old school' retro style game of any kind, it should give the appearance that it's old school but under the hood it should be more on a par with the games people are used to buying today. The player assumes the role of a Blademaster, a Shadowwalker, a Shaman, or a Sorceress and after that can variously recruit up to two other characters (from the same set of four classes) for missions assigned by the leaders of Avadon. Given the simple look of the game, exploration is quick and easy. It uses a simple point-and-click interface that is easy to navigate. Outside of combat, exploration happens in real time. Not 2020, it's like a 15 years behind 2020. Avadon: The Black Fortress is a single-player role-playing video game. Avadon would be quite good based on these aforementioned story qualities, but where it truly shines is with its classic turn-based battle system. I didn't even mention the screen flickering, the faded colors, it's like the game is from the 1990's and a poor attempt was made to bring it into 2005. From my perspective, it's unplayable in it's current state. I only paid 3 bucks for it, but I refunded it. Inside Mac Games I want an immersive game backed by a developer with integrity, and a desire to win fans one at a time. Strong story and characters, great combat, excellent quests, addictive loot and leveling and high replayability. I attempted to adjust it to other settings 1920x1080, 1680x1050 and it doesn't help, in fact it shrinks the box of the play area even smaller like I was playing on a monitor that had those resolutions and a smaller screen size, it's comical to run into these kinds of problems even before you try to play the game. In the end, Avadon: The Black Fortress has everything a good RPG needs. My Monitor's resolution is 2560x1440, the game screen play area is so tiny it's like playing with micro miniatures. It reminds me of the kind of game you could buy in the Big Lots Bargain bin 10 or 20 years ago. This game, in 2020 should be of a higher quality.
